The speaker at the April meeting, Al Senter, a freelance journalist, interviewer and writer, has hosted ‘In Conversation’ at the National Theatre for more than 20 years. During this time he has interviewed many stars from the world of film, television and theatre. His long career has yielded a wealth of anecdotes about famous people, past and present, including Sir John Gielgud, Lord Olivier, and Dame Sybil Thorndyke. Al took us behind the scenes and recounted many stories about his interviewees, many of which are not generally known.
He explained how he had come to be interested in ‘showbiz’, telling of his childhood watching television shows such as ‘Robin Hood’ and emulating his heroes as he and his friends played in the woods around his home. His parents, avid cinema-goers, fostered his love of films and theatre.
An interesting insight into the world of ‘showbiz’.
