The moving correspondence between American academic Helene Hanff and London bookseller Frank Doel was brilliantly portrayed by Linda Hart and actor Gabriel Woolf at the May meeting.
Reading in turn from the letters published in Hanff’s book, they told the story of the growing friendship between two people who, sadly, never met. Frank died after almost twenty years of exchanging letters with Helene, just as they were making arrangements for her to visit London.
Both Linda andGabriel have spoken to the society before but this was their first visit together – a very successful ‘double act’.
