Summer Party August 2012

In homage to the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth, the summer party was billed as ‘A Dickens of an Evening’ – and it was.

Members enjoyed a convivial evening of words, wine and warbling, complemented by delicious food prepared as always by Louise and her band of helpers.

Charles Kay, our London walks guide and Dickens expert, began by speculating what Dickens would have made of all this and concluded, after a short talk about the great man’s love of parties and theatre, that he would have loved it.

Actor John Clegg added his tribute to Mr Dickens by reading a chapter from ‘Bleak House’ and the evening was rounded off with a singalong of old time music hall songs.
