Jean Rogers

Our September 2021 speaker is a local actress who has had a long and varied acting career . She trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and joined Sir Laurence Olivier’s company at the Chichester Festival Theatre. She was a founder member of the National Theatre company at the Old Vic. She has worked extensively in BBC Radio presenting Poetry Corner and Listen with Mother. For more than a decade she played the character of Dolly Skillbeck in Emmerdale Farm for Yorkshire Television.

She has also been an active campaigner for gender equality, artists’ rights and inclusivity in her profession through her work with the actors’ Equity Union. She won the TUC Women’s Gold Badge Award in 2017.

 

My Dear Miss Terry – September 1st, 2021

She wrote and successfully presented a two-hander play celebrating the love letters between George Bernard Shaw and the celebrated Victorian actress, Ellen Terry. We look forward to meeting Jean and hearing this performance which has already been presented in Bognor Regis and Brighton.
