Local author Beryl Kingston made a welcome return to the Society after a gap of ten years with a lively talk enlightening members with answers to the question all writers are asked – ‘where do you get your ideas from?’
Any small incident, an item in a newspaper, or overheard conversation can spark off an idea and Beryl described the process of turning these snippets into a story. Victoria station has provided ideas for more than one novel, the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London another. A visit to a coal mine and an attack on the Midhurst to London coach by an escaped lion have proved further inspiration.
Beryl’s latest book is about a cat called Ace, called ‘Not that I Brag’. It is currently with her agent and we look forward to its publication soon.
