Annual General Meeting and Speaker Peter Lovesey November 2012

Our Patron, Simon Brett, warmly welcomed everyone and expressed his appreciation of the excellent attendance at the AGM on November 2nd.

The 8th annual report and financial statement had previously been distributed to members and there were no matters arising. The necessity for raising the subscription fee was discussed and it will now be £20 pa for single membership, £33 for joint. John Perry expressed appreciation of the varied programme provided and considered the increase in membership fees very modest and good value for money.

The exisiting committee expressed their willingness to stand again and were re-elected unanimously.

Simon then introduced our guest, local crime writer Peter Lovesey, who has won countless crime-writing awards over the years. Apart from his many novels, Peter is a prolific writer of short stories and it was one of these, ‘Say That Again’ which was the subject of his entertaining talk, ‘Where do we go from here?’

After reading a few paragraphs, he stopped and asked the audience, ‘what next?’ Several suggestions from the audience followed and Peter continued the story, stopping at intervals for more suggestions. Then he revealed his own ending which no one had guessed.

Everyone joined in enthusiastically and it was agreed that it had been a most enjoyable evening.
