Our annual summer party went with a swing as usual despite the occasional setback. Organiser and caterer Louise had to be away for a few days immediately beforehand to attend a funeral in Newcastle but she still managed to come up trumps with a tasty three course meal, aided by her helpers in the kitchen.
Prawns served in scallop shells or cold pea soup – excellent choices for a hot summer evening – were followed by salmon with new potatoes and summer vegetables. The pudding was delicious – fruit compote on marzipan brioche with a second choice of lime jelly. Some of us were greedy and had helpings of both.
Robert Hewitt was at the piano playing a selection of nostalgic songs and a few of us joined in with the singalong. However, most of us were too busy eating and enjoying the chance to chat with our neighbours.
