Pimms on the lawn greeted members and guests at our August summer lunch party. With all the doors and windows open and a gazebo outside we were able to enjoy the glorious summer weather before settling down to a three course lunch. A starter of blue cheese and pear was followed by a buffet with a choice of beef, salmon or ham accompanied by salad a choice of dressings. We finished off with a selection of delicious desserts, including the ever-popular and mouth-watering roulades made by Mary.
Before and during the meal we were entertained by pianist, Bernadette Bishop and three of her very talented pupils on violin, clarinet and trumpet.
Between courses we tackled the literary quiz devised by CLS founder Irene Campbell and member David Warwick. The questions – some easy, some not so easy – tested our literary knowledge to the limit. Table 6 ‘Orwell’ were the winners by a small margin.
It was a very enjoyable and convivial afternoon and many thanks are due to the committee, the helpers in the kitchen and all those members who chipped in to help make this annual event such a success.
