The poem The Eve of St Agnes by John Keats was written 200 years ago in 1819 during a visit to Chichester, Stansted and Bedhampton. and published in Keats second and last volume of poems in 1820.

John Keats was the last of the Romantic poets to be born, but sadly the first to die. This talk will include an outline of Keats tragically short life and works, and an introduction to the players and characters involved with bringing him on this visit, without which The Eve of St Agnes may never have been penned.  The talk concludes with John Keats final visit to Bedhampton in September 1820, just a few months before his death.

Nigel is a book collector, literary researcher and has been a keen writer for more than forty years.  He has worked in music, the arts and event management; a specialist topic that he taught at FE Level before embarking on what he describes as a ‘misspent retirement’.  Since then he has thrown himself into researching more about many areas of literature that he never found the time to explore, whilst holding down a ‘proper job’.
